Cinder

Okay, the Lunar Chronicles Series has been one of my favorite Young Adult series for awhile now. Why? Well, I'm glad you asked.

The first book starts out with Cinder, a renowned mechanic in New Beijing. Now, before you go "Oh, this is just another Cinderella story, isn't it," and roll your eyes, hear me out.

The story is set in the future after the fourth World War. The Earthen Union is made up of the continents on Earth, the American Union, the Eastern Commonwealth, etc.

Anyways, you with me so far?

Good.

Cinder, a sixteen year old cyborg, is an outcast of society. She hides her metal limbs under her work gloves at the market, where she has her own mechanic booth. She can't blush, can't cry... and she has a tiny display screen in her vision. It tells her when her adrenaline spikes, when she needs to calm down...

One day, the prince of the Eastern Commonwealth, Kai, comes to her booth and asks her to fix his android.

His father, Emperor Rikan, contracted the mysterious plague called letumosis, and doesn't have much longer to live. The monarchy will soon fall to Kai, and, being single, the ruthless Lunar Queen of Luna (the moon) presses him into a marriage alliance. Emperor Rikan had been able to keep her at bay for years, and had managed to keep the peace between the two countries. After his death, however, that responsibility belonged to Kai.

Lunars are perhaps more hated than cyborgs. The mysterious race were human in appearance, but had one VERY different trait. They could manipulate humans--and Lunars alike--to see what they wanted them to see. They could make themselves have different colored hair, look younger, taller; you get the picture.

Cinder, who lives with her stepmother and two stepsisters, has always dreamed of leaving New Beijing. Under the Cyborg Protection Act, she is pretty much her stepmother's property.

Until Cinder's stepmother, Adri, ends up selling her to plague research testing, that no one comes back from.

Ugh. It is SUPER hard to tell you about this without giving too much away.

Now, for the content.

This book is pretty clean. There are a few (suggestive) comments, a few sentences with language, and some violence. There IS a plague going on, so be aware that that is there.

But, besides that, there isn't much to worry about.

A little bit of sci-fi, magic, romance, action, and everything in between, this is a series you will not want to miss!

Comment below on your thoughts! I'd love to hear from you.
